What is the Hay Springs School-Community Foundation?

The Hay Springs School-Community Foundation was incorporated in June 2002 and has been granted 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation designation by the IRS.

The Foundation is composed of a nine member Board of Directors selected to represent a cross-section of the Hay Springs Community. The Board of Directors includes two members from the District 3 Board of Education, one member from the Hay Springs City Council, one member from Security First Bank, one member residing within District 30, one rural school district member not residing within District 30 and three at-large members.

Jerry Matthews
Came on board Feb 2006 as District 3 School Board representative.

Deb Carlson
Came on board Jan 2004
Born in Loup City Nebraska. Graduated from Columbus High in 1973. Graduated UMNC College of Pharmacy 1978. Married Larry Carlson in 1979. Together they have 3 daughters, Cassie (Larry and Garrett), Kayla and Kristina.
Has been employed as the pharmacist at Hay Springs Pharmacy for 7 years.
Currently a School Board member at District 30. Member of St Peters Lutheran Church. Collects Boston Terriers. In free time enjoys babysitting the most wonderful grandson ever.

Joe Schamp

Linda Rotness
Joined the board Jan 2007. Born to David and Irene Carlson who live southwest of Hay Springs. Linda went to grade school at Antelope School, Dawes C. and graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1970. Linda attended college at Chadron State College and received a Provisional Teaching Certificate. She taught in Sioux and Cherry Counties for several years. Worked for the Forest Service a few years then spent a year in Anchorage, Alaska getting a Bachelors Degree from Alaska Pacific University. Came back to Nebraska and taught school in Dawes Co. Married John Rotness in 1983 and have two children, Katrina and John. A member if the United Methodist Church and Camp Norwesca Board. Interests include gardening, traveling and enjoying my children's activities.

LaVern Hankins
Joined the board in Jan 2006. LaVern was born and raised north of Hay Springs. He moved to town in 1953 and entered the sixth grade, graduating from Hay Springs High School in 1959. LaVern married Barbara Bachmann, a Hay Springs graduate, and together they raised two daughters,Karla and Kim, both graduating from Hay Springs High School. LaVern worked at the Northwest Rural Public Power District for 39 years and retired in January 2005. LaVern was active in the Hay Springs Fire Department for ten years, served on the City Council for twleve years and is a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he is presently serving on the Board of Directors. He is also serving on the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home Board and the Hay Springs Golf Board.

Terry Terrell
Born Sept 17,1946 in Torrington, Wyoming. Moved to Mirage Flats at age 2. Attended Mirage Flats Consolidated School for grades 1 thru 8. Graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1964. Attended Chadron State College, graduating in 1968 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Joined the U.S. Army in 1968, serving 3 tours in Vietnam. Discharged in 1971. Married LaDonna in 1974. Together they have two children, Bryan and Laurie. Terry farms with his brother Vern on Mirage Flats. Has served as chairman of the Nebraska Dry Bean Commission, member of Board of Directors of Nebraska Stockgrowers Ass., chairman of Sheridan County Planning Commision, Commander of the American Legion, Treasurer of District 30 School Board, and was a LEAD Fellow. Currently chairman of The Mirage Flats Irrigation District and it's representative on the Upper Niobrara White NRD advisory committee.

Brenda Johnson

Jodie Garrett
A graduate of Hay Springs High School. Continuing her education at Chadron State College. Has taught in Clinton School systems for 3 years, Noah's Ark Preschool for 1 year. Currently in 4th year of teaching 2nd grade at Hay Springs Elementary. Hay Springs High School volleyball coach for 7 years.

Fred Jungck
Security First Bank representative. Replacing Ron Peters who resigned in August 2005.
